Sri Lanka China Buddhist Friendship Association (SLCBFA) made arrangements to donate a water purifying plant to be fixed at Bodhirajarama Temple at Thiriyaya Junction in Trincomalee Gomarankadawala, sponsored by the Embassy of Peoples Republic of China in Sri Lanka. After the discussions, Mr. Sumathi Dharmawardena the President, Col. Sudath Madugalle the General Secretary, Mr. Aruna de Silva the Deputy secretary and Major K.G. Chandrasiri the Deputy Treasurer of SLCBFA and Rev Matara Makandure Mahindasoma Nayaka Thero the Chief Judicial Sanganayake Thero of three regions North, East & Tamankadura of Sri Saddamawansa Maha Nikaya representing the villagers in the area posed for a photograph.
Depicting the friendship between Sri Lanka & China which existed for a long period, and demonstrating the bilateral friendship between the two countries, Peoples Republic of China has donated this needy plant to serve the people and Buddhist temple in the area. It has a capacity of purifying 1000 liter per hour and is capable of purifying 10000 liters per day. This water which is suitable for drinking will be issued to villagers in the Grama NiladHaari Divisions Mailakudawewa, Kambakotte, Morawewa & Gemunupura in Gomarankadawala Divisional Secretariat region in Trincomalee District which are already suffering from kidney diseases. The Nayake Thero explained that over 800 families will be served by this project. The Divisional Secretary has recommended the same.
The Nayaka Thero declared that a clinic for the treatment of kidney diseases have been commenced already in the region lead by him. Further it is prominent that those diseases are spread all over due to the lack of pure drinking water.
Today, many people in areas in North Eastern Province are suffering from kidney diseases and the Government and some other institutions are trying to prevent but the efforts were not successful.
In the light of the above the SLCBFA will implement similar projects in future in other affected areas with the sponsorship of the Buddhists organizations in China.
With the advices from Nayaka Thero and Divisional Secretary and participations of the people in the area a committee will be organized to manage this project. SLCBFA look forward to carry out such relief services in difficult areas to serve Buddhist and Non Buddhist people.
